The different heat pump systems for DC area are a choice of two distinct types. There is the geothermal heat pump, and the conventional heat pump.

The geothermal heat pump is sometimes called the ground source heat pump. This is a system that takes advantage of the moderate and consistent temperature that is present in the ground that increases the efficiency of the unit while reducing the energy consumption.

The design of this type of system is to transfer heat from a warmer place to a cooler place that is opposite of the flow nature intends. This way, the cooler temperatures underground during the summer can help cool your home and the warmer temperatures underground of the winter can help heat your home.

This type of system has more start up cost but is generally recoverable in 3 to 10 years due to reduced energy costs. The loop part of the system that is placed underground has a life expectancy of 50 years. This is twice the average life expectancy of the above ground unit.

The conventional heat pump works on the same principal of the geothermal heat pump without the additional aid of the ground looping system. This system transfers heat by mechanical means. This system uses the physical properties of the evaporating and condensing of fluids and their effect on heat transfer.

The average heat pump from Carrier and Bryant can save a home owner up to 20% to 40% on their energy bill. The Energy Star heat pumps can save an additional 8%. This is because the average heat pump can provide up to 4 times the amount of heat than the energy they consume.

All three of these types of units are available from John C. Flood, Inc. along with the proper paperwork to help you file for the $1500 tax credit that comes with installing heat pump systems. For DC area residents, there is no better place with more experience when you are in need of home repairs.

The line of Bryant Air Conditioning & Heating Systems includes many different kinds of products to fit their customers’ needs. This includes furnaces, boilers, heat pumps, geothermal heat pumps and central air conditioning units. Each one has the specific purpose of making the inside of your home a comfortable place to be.

Bryant is a company that believes the customer comes first. This is why they have one on the largest lines of system for controlling the atmosphere in your home available on the market place. Some of the older homes still have gas burning boilers as the source of heat during the winter months. This type of unit is preferred by some of the older Americans because it is what they are use to. Other times these units are kept because of the expense to convert it to a newer technology is too great.

The reason a customer desires a particular style or type of HVAC system is of their own choosing. Bryant does not discourage or discriminate against any of them. They understand a personal preference is an individual’s right and they respect this.

If a customer wishes to learn about the latest advances in HVAC systems that are available, a local Bryant dealer can assist win this area also. An example of this is with the energy efficient geothermal heat pumps that not only cost less to run, but come with a tax credit from the US Government.

They also offer accessories to a HVAC that can help cut your energy cost. This includes humidifiers and zone controlling thermostats. The humidifiers help keep the heat in the air during the winter for a longer time that is less taxing on the heating unit. By also only heating areas of the home that are occupied, less energy is wasted producing the necessary heat to make you feel comfortable which is what a zone controller does.

These reasons are just a few advantages of choosing one of the Bryant Air Conditioning & Heating Systems that are available from your local Bryant dealer. John C. Flood, Inc.

Both plumbing and heating are done by service companies as part of a package of convenience to home owners. There are some contractors that just do one, but this can be of a disadvantage. It has less to do with the service and more to do with the comfort level of the homeowner.

For most Americans, their home is more than a place to occupy when away from work. It is their comfort zone where the entire family can feel safe and secure. By using a company that provides any and all types of home repairs, there are a decreased number of strangers in the home when work is being performed.

Since our homes are our refuge from the outside world, the number of outsiders is generally limited. What makes most homeowners feel more secure is to have just one company to provide the services that may be needed to get the job done right the first time.

Another factor in the comfort level of home owners is the longevity of a home repair company by the turnover of the service technicians. Most home owners prefer to deal with just one or two people on a continuous basis. This allows for a type of bond and level of trust to be established. This is also the best way to get any problem resolved in the faster possible manner.

When a technician makes all of the repairs on a home, they get to know the home and its makeup. This assists the technicians in knowing what parts and tools will be needed before even arriving at the home. This leads to lower cost of repairs, since less time is spent on each service call.

For homeowners, by using a service company that provides both plumbing and heating repairs, the costs will be lower and your comfort level will be higher. The team at John C. Flood, Inc stand ready to serve you 24 hours a day. CLICK HERE

The use of hybrid heat pump in the DC area is becoming more common and homeowners are becoming more aware of their benefits.

The biggest advantage is the cost efficiency. Many homes and businesses that use the geothermal hybrid heat pumps have found their cost savings to be 40% to 70% after switching over. The efficiency at which they work is the reason for the cost savings.

There are some very good fuel burning heaters that can obtain a 95% fuel efficiency rating in the production of heat for your home or business. Now compare that to the hybrid heat pump. These pumps are capable of moving 4 units of heat for every unit of electricity they consume. This is a 4: 1 ratio or 400% efficiency. With this type of efficiency, your home can be heated better and cheaper than ever before, at a lower operating cost.

There are few things in this world that can offer more comfort at a lower price than the conventional way of doing something. The new hybrid heat pumps are one of the few that offer this.

The better known operating units are the ones offered by Bryant Heating and Cooling Products. They can have an efficiency rating of 10 to 13 SEER or Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. These systems save money both in the winter and the summer months.

The company that has been the longest lasting Bryant factory authorized dealer that can handle any hybrid heat pump in the DC area is John C. Flood, Inc. They have over 100 years experience in this field and make customer satisfaction their number one job priority.

This is the time of year to make plans for replacing that aging heating system.

The world has used instantaneous water heaters for well over a decade now. For many, especially in Europe where the buildings are hundreds of years old, there is only one set of water pipes leading to the different outlets. To obtain hot water for their showers and sinks, a new type of water heater needed to be developed.

This is when the heat exchangers came into production. Most of these were small electrical heat exchangers that are capable of warming up a small volume of water as it passes by the heating element. These units can be placed near the water outlet for purposes of supplying hot water to that fixture.

What most Americans deem very odd and unsafe are the ones that are placed in the shower units. Turning a knob to adjust the temperature is not the problem, but seeing an electrical cord in the shower sends fear of electric shock to most.

This type of heat exchanger has been tested and developed for decades and is becoming more common in American homes. They are an efficient way to heat water for immediate use.

Unlike their European counterparts, the Americans are installing one large heat exchanger to their existing system. This is possible because most American homes have two sets of pipes.

The advantages to this type of system include two major ones. Because the water is instantly heated, the user never runs out of hot water, no matter how much is used or what number they are in line for when taking a shower.

The second is the energy savings. With no water tank to keep warm, the only time energy is used to heat the water is when it is needed.

There is one drawback. During times of emergencies, many people use the 40 gallon reservoir in their water heater tank as a source of drinking water. This drawback can be eliminated with proper preparation by the home owner.

The new instantaneous water heaters are energy efficient and convenient to use.
There are many manufacturers of a HVAC zone controller. Washington, Virginia, and Maryland have the same choices as other parts of the country. This type of system has come a long ways since the simple mercury switch that could be set for a range of temperatures.

This range was then only measured at the thermostat itself and not the far reaches of your home’s outer sections. This caused some rooms to become over heated while other parts were far too cool.

Today, there are many more choices from a number of manufacturers. One of the leading manufacturers is Bryant. They produce 7 different kinds of HVAC controllers for your home or business, each one with different capabilities and purposes.

One of the more efficient HVAC controllers is the Zone Perfect Zone Controller. This controller has the capabilities of having a different setting for each day of the week for 8 different zones or rooms. This is not only the temperature setting but also the humidity setting. With this as part of your HVAC system, there is the possibility of saving up to 29% on your energy costs.

This system, like most others, works with a number of sensors that are placed throughout the house and duct work. There is even one that monitors the temperature outside.

One of the energy saving features is the indicator that informs the occupants when the filter needs changing to help keep the system operating at peak performance. This controller comes with a 10 year limited warranty and can be installed by professionals from John C. Flood, Inc. at your convenience.

The central air heat pump is the most efficient and cost effective way to heat and cool a home. The basic principle is for the heat pump to collect the heat from outside and transfer it indoors for heating purposes. When cooling the indoor areas, the opposite is true. The heat is transferred from the inside, outdoors.

This transfer of heat is done by the condenser, compressor, refrigerant, and an evaporator. What most people do not understand is that air contains heat, in some capacity, if it is above absolute zero (-273C). Because of this, heat can be absorbed from the outside environment in the winter.

It is possible to extract heat out of the air. The warmer the air is, the more efficient the process is. This is the purpose of installing a geothermal system to the heat pump. This principle can easily be demonstrated in homes that have basements. In the winter time, the basement is always warmer than the rooms upstairs, despite the fact that heat rises. In the summer months, the same basement is cooler.

These physical properties of temperature occur because the basement is below the ground level. The temperature below ground is more constant while the air above the surface changes more rapidly and is influenced on a greater scale by the environment.

These are the principles that make the geothermal heat pumps work so well and make them cost effective. It only takes ¼ to 1/5 the energy to transfer this heat to your home than is required to burn a fossil fuel to heat your home. This same energy savings is seen in the summer months with a large reduction in the electrical bill.

The central air heat pump with a thermal unit is the most energy efficient way to keep the comfort level in your home, while also keeping cost down.

The airborne bacteria in air conditioners are the down side to being comfortable during the hot summer months. In years past, people were not concerned with this or were unaware of their presence.

But now, with more people having allergies and sensitivity to airborne bacteria and microbes, more people are becoming aware of the source of this contamination.

Mold and certain bacteria like moist, cool places to multiply. This can be found at the evaporator in every air conditioning system. The evaporator is the coils that the air is passed over and the heat is drawn out of the air, thus cooling the air. When air is cooled, its ability to hold moisture is reduced. When this occurs, condensation develops in the area of the evaporator. This is why every AC unit has a drip pan in this area to collect the condensation.

The mold and bacteria can then spread throughout the house when this cool air, which is reduced in moisture but filled with spores, travels through the duct work and into different rooms of your house unfiltered. Every HVAC system has a filter on the return air before it is cooled, but few have a filter after the cooling process occurs.

The different methods to purify this air and get rid of the unwanted bacterium and mold spores are with HEPA filters, ultraviolet germicidal irradiation, activated carbon filters, photocatalytic oxidation process, ionizer purifiers, and ozone generators to name a few. Each one of these attacks the bacterium and mold differently, but with the same ending result. That is with their elimination from the air you breathe.

If you are concerned with the airborne bacteria in air conditioner, consult with the experts at John C. Flood, Inc. for practical solutions for your home or office.
